| The former pub was named “Beim Engel” at that time. Over the centuries, it developed into a gourmet restaurant and traditional hotel. This establishment was privately owned from 1660 until 2001, of which the last 188 years, it was in the possession of the Kleber Family. As a refuge for high ranking guests and politicians, for example the author Ernst Jünger, different members of the Literati – Group 47, Francois Mitterrand and Helmut Kohl, the hotel became an important witness of social and political events. |
| In 1995,, after a new construction the Kleber family had to give up the hotel. The City Council of Bad Saulgau took over the establishment as a bed and breakfast hotel. Many interested parties failed in their attempts to take over, until 2008, in which the locally based construction company Reisch, obtained the Subsidy for the acquisition and the renovation. |
Christine and Egon-Michael Durach, who successfully managed their Restaurant and the Cooking Workshop “Living-Loft” for 15 years in the centre of Bad Saulgau, have been chosen to manage the hotel.
Egon Michael Durach, born in Allgäu started his own business, together with his wife in her hometown Bad Saulgau, after different stages of his career, namely, at Roy Petermann in “Landhaus Dill”, currently known as “Louis C. Jacob” in Hamburg, thereafter, as chef at the summer residency of the French President Francois Mitterrand in Rambouillet, near Paris as well as 8 years in Graubünden and Solothurn in Switzerland.

Architecture of the Kleber Post
The traditional establishment was redesigned according to the creed of Oscar Wilde “The average gives the world its durability. The unusual its value.” The central theme extends through the new rooms -Baroque meets Design and Art. In creating this atmosphere, Contemporary Art is a fundamental part of the design concept. Amongst others, art lovers can find objects from Gerold Miller, a wooden sculpture of Aron Demetz, a participant of the Biennale Venice 2009, as well as photographic art from Sven Erik Klein and thirteen etching graphics of Markus Daum. Furthermore, worth mentioning are the works of the Swiss Max Bill, the graphic artists Anton Stankowski and Grieshaber as well as the artists Willibrord Haas, Marlies Glaser, Rose Sommer-Levpold and Daniel Kojo Schrade.
The new building represents itself in a modernised new look, with individually designed guest rooms. Guests glide on old parquet and light coloured natural stone flooring. Furniture made of pear wood, specifically designed rugs and carefully selected materials in warm colours, create a bright but harmonious atmosphere. These noble settings are accentuated by purple velvet, rich violet shades, gold leaf as well as chandeliers from Louis Poulsen and design objects from Promemoria, Florence Knoll and Donghia. |
